THE CONTRIBUTOR BRIEF
Welcome to The Collective. This brief is for writers joining our editorial community. It covers what we publish, how we like it written, and how to submit. Read it before you pitch — it saves us both time and makes a yes far more likely.
WHAT WE PUBLISH
The Journal is where INHAUTECOUTURE meets culture. We commission and accept pieces across a few lanes:
STYLE & STYLING: how to wear a silhouette, occasion dressing, print and colour, building an investment wardrobe.
THE ATELIER: craft, fabric, embellishment, and the making of a garment — the story behind the piece.
CULTURE & POINT OF VIEW: essays on fashion, self-expression, and the idea of democratized designer wear.
THE COMMUNITY: designer and stylist spotlights, event coverage, and voices from The Collective.
HOW WE WRITE
ELEVATED, NOT STIFF. Confident and editorial, never salesy. Write like a knowledgeable friend with impeccable taste.
SPECIFIC OVER GENERIC. Name the fabric, the cut, the moment. Show, don't tell.
ORIGINAL AND TRUE. Only original work. No plagiarism, no AI-spun filler, and no invented facts, quotes, statistics, or reviews. If you cite something, it must be real and verifiable.
RESPECTFUL. Inclusive language, no disparaging real people or brands.
FORMAT & LENGTH
Most pieces run 600–1,200 words. Lead with a strong hook, use clear subheadings, and close with a takeaway. Supply a suggested title and a one-line standfirst. Images, if you have them, should be your own or properly licensed, with credit.
HOW TO SUBMIT
Apply through Join the Collective and select “Writer.” Include a short note on the piece you want to write and one or two writing samples or links. We review submissions on a rolling basis and reply to the ones that are the right fit. Published contributors are credited by name and featured across The Collective.
