How to Choose Your Length: From Micro to Floor
Length isn't an absolute — it's a relationship between the cut and your height. The house guide to every length, how it falls, and how to choose for your frame and your occasion.
Two women can order the same length and wear it entirely differently. A "mini" on one falls mid-thigh; on another, a few inches higher. Length is not an absolute — it is a relationship between the cut and your height. Understanding that relationship is the single most useful thing you can learn before choosing an occasion piece. Length is measured from the body, not the label
When we describe a piece as a mini, a midi or a maxi, we are describing where it is intended to land on the body — not a fixed number of inches. Because our sample fit is built on a 5'2" frame, a taller woman will naturally wear the same design a little shorter, and a petite frame a little longer. As a rule of thumb, add roughly two inches of length for every three inches of additional height — and remember that we adjust length to you before shipping.
The map, shortest to longest
Micro — the boldest register, sitting high on the thigh. Confident, kinetic, made for the night that has energy to burn.
Mini — mid-thigh, the modern party classic. Enough leg to feel free, enough structure to feel considered.
Above the knee — one to three inches above the knee. Flattering on almost everyone, and the most versatile length in the wardrobe.
Midi — mid-calf. The most quietly elegant length, ideal for receptions, rehearsal dinners and daytime formality.
Maxi — ankle to floor. The language of the formal evening, long and unbroken.
Floor and gown — grazing the floor, sometimes with a trail. Reserved for the most ceremonial nights, where presence is the point.
Choosing for your height
If you are petite, be aware that a maxi will read longer on you than on the model; a true floor length may need shortening, which we handle. If you are tall, the opposite applies — a mini will sit higher, and a midi may land closer to the knee. None of this is a problem to solve on your own; it is exactly what our atelier accounts for. Match the length to the night
When in doubt, let formality lead. The more ceremonial the occasion, the longer the length: minis and above-knee for celebrations and parties, midi for receptions, floor and gown for the most formal evenings. Get the length right and half the styling decision is already made.
